How To Clean A Screen According To Its Type

The cleaning of electronic devices requires some basic care.

Whether it is equipment that is sensitive to chemical agents or the fact that any damage caused may be irreversible to the product.

With regard especially to screens, be it notebooks, desktop PC monitors or touch screens of portable devices such as cell phones and tablets, many users forget that these surfaces are really sensitive and, if not handled in the correct manner, they can be easily damaged.

Within this context, the LCD and LED technology TV screens are also included.

Because of what we mentioned, for the correct cleaning of the monitors, the oldest and best known technique works best: water and a cloth.

Detergents, ammonia, removers and even alcohol do not properly remove dust or finger marks.

However, they eliminate the anti-glare layer, which protects the user’s vision.

In general, the ideal way to clean a screen is for the user to use microfiber cloths, since they do not leave those “hairs” that the common tissues release when they are passed through smooth and wet surfaces, nor do they mark the screen.

If the consumer prefers specific products, it is possible to find various screen cleaning kits on the market, which usually contain a spray bottle and a cloth.

If they prefer that alternative, specialists recommend not applying the product directly on the screen, as the user can apply an amount greater than necessary.

The first and correct procedure is to remove excess dust, then moisten the cloth and gently run it through the monitor.

What You Should Not Do

Before starting to review different cleaning procedures according to the type of screen, it is important to clarify what we should never do in relation to the cleaning of an LCD, LED or touch screen.

The famous finger swipe on the screen is common is a totally wrong technique.

The pressure caused by the force of the hand tends to damage the LCD membrane and the screen pixels.

The result is those black or white dots that never disappear, that is, dead pixels.

Another sign that a pixel is damaged is a yellowish appearance.

A page that must be totally white is shown with some yellowish spots. This problem is not caused by a chemical reaction, but by the bad handling of the product.

If the damage was already consummated, the only solution is to change the screen.

Keep in mind that in the event that the screen of our notebook has been damaged, depending on the model and manufacturer, that repair may include the entire monitor and the cost will be higher than desired.

How to clean LCD and LED screens

Due to the nature of its construction, LCD screens (Liquid Crystal Display) are really delicate and sensitive to all kinds of inappropriate treatments, and this feature is noticeable when we face the need to perform a cleaning of it.

For this reason, cleaning an LCD screen, both from a PC monitor and from a television, requires special care, which was not necessary at the time of cleaning that traditional CRT technology monitor.

Let’s keep in mind that cathode ray screens were manufactured using glass as the primary component.

Although the most advisable in these cases is to refer to the information provided by the monitor manufacturer for proper cleaning, the truth is that many times this information provided by the company that markets the monitor does not usually accompany the instructions of the monitor, and In this way, users cannot access the necessary data that indicates an effective cleaning method validated by the manufacturer of the screen.

Quick Screen Cleaning

Normally for any light cleaning of the screen it will be enough to review it, for which we must use a soft cloth slightly moistened with water.

However, there are cases where due to the dirt deposited on the viewfinder it is not possible to perform proper sanitation, therefore we will require some solution or mixture that allows us to completely remove the dirt.

Deep Screen Cleaning

In today’s market we can find complete cleaning kits for monitors, which have been specially formulated for these activities.

These kits, in addition to including the mixture itself, have a series of materials suitable for the correct cleaning of the screen, such as cloths or chamois, through which we can clean the surface of the equipment without running the risk of causing scratches or damage.

However, despite their excellent performance, most users consider that the cost of these elements is usually too high for the function they fulfill.

How To Make Cleaning Liquid

Although the cleaning solutions that are marketed in the market will allow us to achieve optimal results, the truth is that in general they exceed their utility in price.

That is why it is sometimes necessary to develop these types of screen cleaning mixtures.

Therefore, in principle we must point out that to manufacture our own screen cleaning liquid we will need to use a mixture of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol.

It is important to highlight that isopropyl alcohol is a substance whose use is widespread in regard to the cleaning of lenses of photographic lenses and in the cleaning of contacts of electronic devices, because its use does not leave marks and is very rapid evaporation

As for the water used, it must be distilled, since it does not present any kind of contaminants or abrasive impurities such as minerals or salts, which can become elements that negatively influence the screen, scratching it or producing even more dirt.

How To Prepare The Mixture For Cleaning

We have already seen that two components are necessary for the creation of our own cleaning solution: on the one hand, isopropyl alcohol, and on the other, distilled water.

In this case the isopropyl alcohol used must be 70%.

In order for the result we obtain to be the most appropriate to our needs, this mixture of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water must be prepared in a clean container, in a 50:50 ratio, that is, half and half of both products.

While it is true that many screens that are currently sold in the market are provided with a film of anti-reflective material that can run some kind of risk for the use of the solution, this fact should not worry us, because the proportion of Alcohol used is really very low.

In addition, we must not forget that it must also be mixed with water, which further minimizes the risk of producing any screen alteration.

Those users who are not totally sure of using this proportion of distilled water and alcohol, can also choose to decrease the amount of isopropyl alcohol used to clean the monitor, using 40% alcohol and 60% distilled water for the mixture.

Items Needed For Cleaning

Once the mixture is prepared, it should be used with caution.

Therefore, we must have a series of elements that will facilitate our work, allowing us to have better control and the possibility of preventing possible errors.

For this we will need a container that has a spray nozzle, a soft cloth and a brush or brush.

This kind of materials can be purchased at electronics or computer stores for a small fee.

To begin preparing the LCD screen for proper cleaning, in the first instance, we will use the brush or brush to remove any traces of dust or dirt that our screen may have accumulated.

This element must be made of top quality materials, extremely soft bristles and have anti-static properties.

We must take into account that the final result of the cleaning operation is linked to the success we have in this first step, since if we do a good job of dust and dirt removal, when applying the distilled water mixture and isopropyl alcohol, undesirable stains or any other type of inconvenience that may hinder the work will not occur.

How to clean touchscreen screens

At present, touch screens are present in many different teams, and due to the constant contact that such technology requires, they are obviously more dirty and stained than “common” screens.

Therefore, more frequent cleaning is necessary; but many times that cleaning is done inappropriately, staining and ruining the screen.

We must also bear in mind that many of the touch screens, in addition to beautiful and modern are delicate, not in the case of those that have Gorilla Glass technology that offer protection against scratches, dust, etc.

In general, to clean large touch screens, such as those of touch monitors or tablets, you only need a cotton cloth and a microfiber cloth.

With the first moistened cloth, the screen should be cleaned with smooth and circular movements, without pressing, while the microfiber cloth will be used to dry the surface.

In addition, the microfiber cloth also serves to quickly clean the accumulated dust without “wetting” the screen.

Deep Cleaning Of Touchscreen Screens

When we need to remove grease from our touch screens without leaving stains, it is best to use isopropyl alcohol which, unlike ethyl alcohol, does not leave the screen yellowish or bleached over time.

It is also very useful for cleaning the plastic or metallic part of the equipment.

As we mentioned above, great care must be taken when handling this alcohol, keeping it away from the eyes, avoiding direct contact with the skin and obviously keeping it out of the reach of children.

Extra Care Of Touchscreen Screens

It is always advisable to keep in mind some basic guidelines to keep our touch screens in good condition.

Therefore, in the case of smartphones or tablets, it is advisable to use plastic films on the screen for added protection and avoid scratches and other serious problems.

It is important not to place the equipment with these screens in pockets where there are coins, keys or other type of hard object, since these can significantly ruin the device.

In this way you can have impeccable and clean all touch screens of our equipment such as tablets, smartphones and others.
